Why Things Won’t Slow Down Next Month (And What Gym Owners Must Change Today)

The Hardest Truth You’ll Hear This Month

Here’s the hardest truth you have heard in a month: things will not slow down next month unless you make major changes in your business today. If you are waiting for things to slow down, you will be waiting forever.

Welcome to this episode of the Fullout Cheer Podcast. I’m Danielle, and this is the shortest podcast I have ever done. I’m doing it this way on purpose, and I’m truly trying to stick to four or five minutes. So many of you need serious motivation to get things done, and what I keep hearing from gym owners is “I’m too busy.” I’m too busy to invest in my education. I’m too busy to take on a new AI platform. I’m too busy to get my website redone. I’m too busy to train my staff.

I’m here to tell you that in six months, I can check back in with you and you will be just as busy. That’s why I hope you’ll listen to this episode every Monday for the motivation to make the changes your business needs.

The Gym Owner Who Was Always “Too Busy”

I’ll never forget speaking with a gym owner I’d known for a couple of years. I told her she should come out to the conference, and she said she would love to, but things were so busy right now. They just needed to slow down, and by next month she’d be good.

I put a reminder on my calendar and followed up about four and a half weeks later. I asked how everything was going and whether the burden felt lighter. She said no, and that this came up and this came up and this came up. No problem, I told her. Did she think in three to six months she’d feel less stressed? She said yes, definitely.

So I waited, and I checked back in six months later. I said, “Let me guess: you’re still overburdened, stressed out, constantly running, and feeling like you don’t have enough time.” She asked how I could possibly know that. I told her it was because she never made operational changes in her business. She didn’t protect her time, and she kept operating on the same hamster wheel while expecting different results.

We’ve all heard the definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. It is so true of gym owners. You are probably so busy right now that you feel like you could be getting ten things done instead of listening to this. The problem is that next week you’ll feel the same, and the week after that, too. There are a couple of reasons this happens.

Reason One: You’re Not Protecting Your Time

The first is that gym owners fail to protect their time, so this week, protect your time.

I talked to a gym owner yesterday who had about an hour and a half before classes started and a whole list of things to get done. She took a phone call from an event producer with questions about an event that was months away. She got on the phone, and an entire hour later she hung up with only about thirty minutes before classes began. My question to her was: what did you possibly need to answer in that moment that couldn’t have waited?

She admitted she hadn’t thought about it. Instead, she could have said, “Can we schedule this for Friday morning at 9? Let’s go from 9 to 9:30, and I’ll answer all of your questions then.” She would have saved at least thirty minutes, but more importantly, she would have protected the time within her day.

It happens constantly. We have parents who need an emergency conversation right now about something happening at practice five hours from now. We have parents with an emergency that truly isn’t one. We have staff who just want to brainstorm or need a little help. If you’re not setting boundaries, you are not protecting your time as an owner.

Reason Two: You’re Delegating Like It’s 2023

Maybe you’re good at protecting your time. You put an end time on every meeting. But maybe your downfall is that you’re still delegating like it’s 2023.

In 2023, delegating meant doing a time audit, figuring out what was on my plate, getting something off of it, and systemizing it so I could hand it to a staff member. That’s great if you have a big staff, but so many gyms don’t.

Here’s what it looks like in 2026. You notice you’re doing the same repetitive task every day. Instead of spending fifteen minutes on it daily, you take thirty minutes today, maybe giving up something else, and you automate the task or teach AI how to do it for you. You don’t even have to go tell it to run each day. It just does the work and reports back with whatever information you need.

This is what 2026 looks like. You don’t need a full staff or a ton of employees. You might be a solo gym owner with 40 kids in your gym, and you don’t need to hire yet. You just need to work smarter.

Your Challenge for This Week

If you feel like you’re constantly on that hamster wheel, turning and turning, just as busy now as you were last week and certain to be just as busy next week, put this podcast on every Monday morning for a little motivation. Then give yourself thirty minutes today to optimize your time, figure out what needs to change, and decide how you’ll control and protect your calendar this week.

That’s the shortest podcast I have ever recorded, and it’s intentional, because I want you to be able to listen weekly and remind yourself that you’ve got this. But you cannot get this done if you keep doing it the same way you always have.

Thank you for joining me on this episode of the Fullout Cheer Podcast. We’ll see you on the next one.
