Have you ever had an opportunity arise and wondered if it was the right move for you? Anyone who has been in business for any length of time, probably has. Perhaps it was a new building that would cost more, an opportunity to open a second location or to hire an amazing coach who wanted a lot of money.

I’m sure you had to sit back and think about it a lot. Maybe you weighed out the pros and cons, you talked to a wise friend about it, and maybe you took to google to do some research. I bet one thing sat in the forefront of your mind in each of those situations.

“What if…”

What if the new building is too big and I can’t ever fill it with new athletes?

What if the new building is so far outside my budget that I fail?

What if a second location in that town in the wrong move?

What if people in that town don’t like my brand and what I can offer?

What if a mega gym moves in down the street and steals my coaches?

What if I have a bad month and can’t afford payroll for that amazing coach?

We often find ourselves spiraling down the hole of “what if’s”. For some of us, we spiral so far that we eventually talk ourselves out of whatever opportunity sat in front of us. The risk (we tell ourselves) is greater than the reward.

Ultimately, we give up hope and move on to our other dreams – usually smaller, less exciting and less challenging ones. Over time, we get comfortable with being comfortable. We stop considering out-of-the box ideas and we revert back to what has always worked.

Ten years down the road you find yourself working just as hard as you did in the first year and taking home about the same paycheck. When someone makes a suggestion for an out-of-the box idea, you consider it…as long as it’s not too far out there.

When someone asks why you do something a certain way – your first thought is, “That’s the way we’ve always done it” and in your head you end it with, “and it works”.

But let me ask you something, and you’re going to laugh, because it’s another series of “what ifs”…

What if you hadn’t let fear take over your decisions?

What if you had someone who said, “I know you can do this, and I’m beside you every step of the way!”

What if you had so much confidence in your own abilities to lead your business that you refused to fail?

Do you think your business would go down a different path?

I do.

You would see failures from time to time, and recognize them as opportunities in your life where you grew. You would also see successes and be so grateful you took the chance.

Today is your day. Take a chance.
