Last week one of our Academy members had some phenomenal and exciting news. She had met a HUGE goal she set in place a few months ago. It was a big goal for a few reasons – not just because she was wanting to reach it – but because it would affect her personal life and require her to go get a full-time job outside of the gym if she didn’t.

Do you know what happened though? She not only reached her goal, but she exceeded it….about a month before her deadline.

So, Justin immediately picked up his phone and called her. Afterwards, he was telling me about their conversation. He said, “She mentioned that she doesn’t realize at times how much she has grown as an owner and as a gym. It wasn’t until her accountability partner asked her that week some questions that she realized how much she had really grown.”

Isn’t that amazing? We work so hard and celebrate our goals once they’re achieved, but over time, that excitement and the thrill of the win fades. Think about any major competition you’ve ever placed first at. I bet you were over the moon that day. Today though – do you still get the same spark in your eye when you talk about it? Does your heart race a bit in excitement? Probably not as much as that day.

For that reason, it’s important that we’re reflecting consistently. So, here are a few questions for you. You can either spend 5 minutes reflecting on them or you can reply back to this email.

  1. What was your goal for 2022? Did you get any closer to achieving it this month? If not, what will you do in the next week to get closer?
  2. Where were you in January 2021? How many athletes did you have? What was your total monthly revenue in comparison to today?
  3. What was the morale like in your gym a year ago? Was everyone thrilled to be back in the gym in January 2021 and they’re still grateful and excited today? Has it gone down a bit? (That would be a natural response…remember – they may not have the spark in their eye like they did the day they were able to step back into the gym.)

I’m curious if you think about these things often. I do. Here are my answers.

  1. Our goal was to build a staff training portal and a members portal for our gym families. We’re doing fantastic on the staff training portal and have two courses built out already.
  2. We have 194 more athletes now than we did in January 2021. Holy smokes we grew in the last year. This one surprised me even!! Our revenue is reflective of that increase as well.
  3. Our morale was good in January 2021, but it’s phenomenal today. The parents are so incredibly supportive and I can’t think of a single one who I don’t believe is a team player today.

So, if you’re like me – you might really enjoy this exercise. If you’ve had a different experience in the past year, then you’re probably Canadian. Kidding, not kidding. But, if you’ve had a different experience, let’s use the remaining 11 months this year to make some huge changes. Don’t wait until Monday either. Let’s make a plan before you leave the gym today!
