Maybe you feel like your season has sort of just begun. If you’ve yet to compete or maybe

you’ve only competed once or twice, it’s probably hard to start thinking about next season already. Here are the top 3 reasons you need to be thinking about the 2022-2023 season already though:

  1. When you’re always thinking ahead, you’re going to get better at finding takeaways. All season I’ve used a card on my Trello board to note things we need to change for next year. Some are small, and some are larger – like clarifications on policies and procedures in our all star packet. When we’re consistently focused on improving our programs, we’re going to use takeaways (large and small) to make us better every year.
  2. You’re going to be better at budgeting for next year. A few things I didn’t think about this year: A) The rush on uniforms for my quarter-year team due to the Chinese New Year. Next year, I’ll either start that team a few weeks earlier or I’ll charge a bit differently so I can do the rush fee. B) The extra stunt practices and private lessons we would need for fill-in athletes. We have been lucky enough to have fill-ins available for a few of our teams when an athlete is sick at the last minute. That wasn’t always the case in the past as a small gym. Now that we have those fill-ins though, I need to account for my staff’s time to get them spun up on a routine at the last minute. C) The change in location due to vaccination requirements at our originally scheduled competition. We had to adjust some fees because the new location’s lodging were a bit more costly. All of these things could use a bit of a buffer in future seasons, and if I start planning now, I can account for that in next year’s fees.
  3. Parents are already asking. I’ve already received the question once on when tryouts will be. While we’re still 5 months out, I love that this family is trying to make sure their vacation is booked around tryouts, so why wouldn’t I look that far ahead also and get something on the calendar now. It helps me to be more prepared and it helps my families to not miss anything that’s important to them.
